In a significant move to standardize medical admissions, the National Medical Commission (NMC) has issued revised guidelines concerning the 85% state quota for MBBS and BDS seats starting in the 2026 academic year.
The new rules aim to resolve ambiguities around domicile requirements that have historically led to legal disputes. Under the new directive, states must adopt a uniform definition of "domicile", preventing students from claiming state quota benefits in multiple states simultaneously.
State counseling authorities have been instructed to update their portals and notify students of these strict verification protocols well before the NEET UG 2026 results are declared.
